Tech Wizards 1: Graph Paper Programming

We at the Indiana Free Library believe that computing is so fundamental to understanding and participating in society that it is valuable for all students.  We see computer science as a subject that provides students with a critical lens for interpreting the world around them.  Computer science prepares all students to be active and informed contributors to our increasingly technological society whether they pursue careers in technology or not.  Out Tech Wizards will learn beginning computer science concepts with both online and “unplugged” activities.  This course is designed for students entering grades 4 to 6. Registration is required and space is limited.

By "programming" one another to draw pictures, students get an opportunity to experience some of the core concepts of programming in a fun and accessible way. The class will start by having students use symbols to instruct each other to color squares on graph paper in an effort to reproduce an existing picture. If there’s time, the lesson can conclude with images that the students create themselves.

By registering for this program, you are registering for all of the Tech Wizard programs.  Please make sure your child will be able to attend most of the class as concepts will build upon previous lessons.

To register for the Summer Food program, each child must be independently registered 48 hours in advance of each program participation, to allow for food preparation. See the Register tab above and register for the event and the lunch option if you intend to stay for lunch after the program which will be served between 11:30 and 12:30. This year’s Summer Food sponsor is the YMCA. Children not listed in the registration roster will not be able to stay for lunch. There will also be lunch provided on Friday for registered participants, even though there will be no Children’s program in advance. Lunch will be available in the Community Room on Fridays at 12:30 PM. The lunch provided is for children 18 and younger only. Lunch is NOT provided for adults.
