Color Me Happy!

 Color Me Happy

In today’s stress-filled world people continue to search for ways to unwind and relax.  Many try yoga, long walks, baths, scented candles, or anything that will give them a few minutes of a relaxed, stress-free environment.  There’s a new stress-reducer that’s making waves for adults all across the country:  Coloring!

“The popularity of coloring books right now is part of a larger movement to break away from the hustle and bustle of life and sort of the internet, you know this urge to constantly look at our phone or our computer or check our email,” states Lisa Congdon, illustrator of three popular adult coloring books.  And in this day and age, who doesn’t need that?

And the great thing about coloring is anyone can do it!  No special tools or certain skills are needed.  Coloring pages allow you to be creative and to make beautiful things without the intimidation of staring at that blank page.  It gives you the chance to relive that childhood joy of picking up a crayon and making something pretty, without overthinking it or worrying about deadlines, emails, or projects.

The library is beginning its own coloring group:  Color Me Happy!  Adults and teens are welcome to come and color, socialize, and relax.  For our younger patrons and their families we will have a coloring session in the Children’s Department as well.
